What is my LEGO worth?

I would consider LEGO® purchased between 1987 and 1995 as 'prime' in my eyes. This does not mean that LEGO® aged before or after that period is not wanted. In addition, LEGO® from 1987-1995 may not be worth much if it is simply bricks.

Years
Comments
up to 1969 if in good shape, I am interested. Usually the white bricks have turned yellowish and the other colours have faded, but if kept well it is worth something to me.
1970 - 1979 old-style gears, Space, Castle
1980 - 1989 Space, Castle, Pirates, Town, Technic
1990 - 1999 Town (to mid-90s), Space, Castle, Technic
2000 - present Star Wars

Things that will have increased the value of your collection:

 • kept in good condition
 • clean
 • from the period 1987-1995
 • town, castle, technic, monrail, space sets
 • you transport (knowing that I may not buy or give you what you want)
 • electronic elements (motors, lights, computer-related LEGO®)
 • rare or mail-order sets (many train sets)
 • European or other foreign sets (how to tell)
 • early gears (from around 1970-1972--the red, yellow and blue gears with white axles, 2x4 gray axle housings and red bushings)
 • lots of minifigs
 • instructions
 • completed sets (almost all pieces present in the set)
Things that will have de-valued your collection:
 • dirty or sunworn pieces
 • broken, nicked or dog-chewed pieces
 • sticky gunk (usually melted candy in my experience) mixed into the collection
 • pieces or minifigs with lots of marker drawings
 • lots of bricks but not many sets
 • battery leakage
 • clone brands mixed in (this really devalues the lot because sorting it out is a real hastle depending on the quantity--we have no use for clone brands except those mentioned)
Pick-up or delivery?

If you don't feel comfortable about me showing up at your house, then bring it on over here! Alternatively, you can send me detailed digital photos of your collection. I will appraise your collection (probably with my kids' help) and make an offer. I do not pay extra for Rubbermaid bins, so please don't expect me to pay for them; I only want the contents.

Rollback:

Once the purchase has taken place, I will keep your collection separate from ours for 2 days. If you change your mind during that period, you can buy it back (you pick up). This will give you the opportunity to change your mind and roll back the purchase. The only expense will be your time and gas to come pick it up: no hard feelings. However, after the 2 days, the LEGO® will be considered 'integrated' into our collection. For reasons of practicality, it would be impossible to recover your collection after that time.

I intend to pay fairly for your LEGO®. Due to the fact that I have bought a lot of new and used LEGO® over the years, I have a very good grasp on what LEGO® is worth.

Collections with lots of bricks but not a lot of sets are not going to be worth as much as collections with lots of sets. Sets with instructions are going to be worth more if they are in decent condition.

Sets that can be proven to be complete (because they are built for instance) would incur a bonus. Trains are expensive to buy, and as we are not as interested in them we probably would not offer 'top dollar' for your trains. However, Monorail sets are something we would like more of.
